Friends or just fans? Parasocial relationships in online television fiction communities

This paper explores parasocial phenomena on social media pages related to Spanish television fiction by analysing the development of parasociality through relationships established between users and characters characteristics this type online community. The sample consisted 4,762 spontaneous comments posted (1,598 Facebook 3,164 Twitter) linked series. Comments published 1 January 2018 31 May 2020 were compiled day after premiere each fiction. Our findings confirm those previous researchs similarity with fictional in real life. study also substantiates that women’s show a greater tendency draw associations daily We find link programme longevity audience success one hand, intensity other. among community members reveal degree narcissism, prompting more self-disclosure than interaction rest users. Therefore, such are closer consociality (Kozinets, 2015) parasociality, although significant differences concerning gender identity found context.
